About me

#Lifelong learner #IT educator

Hi!

Let me introduce myself! My name is Marta Surbevski and I am a graduate student at Purdue University’s Learning Design and Technology Program! The purpose of this blog is to document my reflections from EDCI 528, Human Performance Technology and Open Network Learning (ONL).

Currently, I work with instructional design in a large organization. However, I worked as a primary and middle school teacher for 20 years in the United States and Sweden. When I transitioned into my current roll, I realized that working with adults in an organizational setting is quite different then teaching in a classroom. I realized quite quickly that I needed another skillset to be able to do my job even better.

As I mentioned, I am enrolled in graduate school at Purdue. Actually, I will be graduating in August 2023. Needless to say, this graduate program has been intensive, difficult, hands-on and defintely worthwhile! I have developed myself through assignements and discussions with peers. I do feel like I am coming out of the program with knowledge and practical skills within the varying facets of instructional design. The program has given me insight and opportunities to test theory in practice. Even though I am excited to finish up, I know I will miss learning about ID topics!

Outside of the LDT program, I love to read/listen to books. My favorite books are based on historical fiction or true accounts, espcially if they are topics that I already don’t know much about. I am quite active and like to train or go on long walks. I also enjoy baking/cooking when recipes are involved! I am not one to cook without a recipe.
